Bible Reviews for Graduates and Father’s Day
I know many of my Bible reviews target children and women, so I specifically requested more Bibles to review focused on men. (I don’t want to forget you guys!).
This month, I am reviewing two incredible Bibles from Zondervan.
Rooted: The NIV Bible for Men
The first is “Rooted: The NIV Bible for Men” in brown leather-soft. This Bible has some incredible resources inside, including articles busting the most commonly accepted myths, showing where in God’s Word it’s merely a myth. Two of the myths that are addressed are “If I was a good Christian, I wouldn’t struggle with sin” (page 220) and “I can earn God’s approval” (page 446). The author debunks each myth by matching it with the truth. It also has many profiles of men in the Bible and hundreds of questions for reflection.
The two hundred “Knowing God” notes highlight God’s character and where it’s revealed to us in Scripture. There are also short teachings on important life topics focused on men.
The Bible includes many extra study notes, which help new or seasoned believers. The Zondervan NIV Comfort Print is easy to read, even for those of us over 40 who keep pushing the menus further away to see them better. 😉
One downside (and this is all personal preference) is that this isn’t a red-letter Bible. Sometimes it takes you an extra minute to see who is speaking in the New Testament since it’s not highlighted. However, this is a minor thing (in my opinion), but I do like to note this in my reviews. There are also no maps in this Bible.
Overall, I think this is a solid Bible that will lay flat for writing in the margins or reading. I will be getting my teenage son a copy of it for graduation this year. This Bible would be age-appropriate for late teens and beyond, one that the recipient would have for years/decades to come. This Bible retails at $79.99. Amazon (at the time of writing) has it listed for $49.06

Spiritual Habits Bible
The second Bible today is the NIV Spiritual Habits Bible: Learn to Live a Gospel-Centered Life. This Bible includes 365 Bible-based articles focusing on one of the 30 habits it discusses in the beginning, including prayer, obedience, rest, etc. These daily articles help guide the reader in what to look for in each reading. Author and pastor Joe Carter wrote the 365 articles.
This Bible is a red-letter Bible, so you will have Jesus’ words in red to distinguish them. The hardcover book also lies flat, another significant benefit of this book. The Bible has a slightly smaller print at an 8.5 font, but it is still very readable for most people. In this resource, there are no other articles, notes, etc.; it is all based on daily habits to strengthen a Gospel-centered life. There are also no maps in the back, but each book has an introduction to tell more about the book. This Bible retails for $44.99 and is on Amazon for $32.98.
I would recommend this Bible for late teens and up; it’s very gender neutral in appearance and insights.
