In The Rushing Where Is God?

“Be still and know that I am God” – Psalm 46:10a

It seems like we are always rushing. Everywhere we turn we are running from one event to another, from one practice to another.  Our calendars are overflowing. Just a short while ago, we were a lot less busy. That was maybe the only benefit of the pandemic, we were no longer rushing around.  Life rushes by us so fast and we are often so busy that we don’t have time for God.  As I look at my never-ending to-do list, I find myself overwhelmed and hurried through most things I do.

One thing that I try not to rush is the time I spend with God. Spending time with God should be one of our top priorities each day. To make this a priority I started getting up thirty minutes before anyone else in my house.  That’s my time in the Word, prayer, and journaling. Often in that quiet time, I hear God the most. I chose this time because there are no distractions, no one needs anything and after I spend my time with Him, I feel better prepared for my day.  I feel like I can face the world because I’ve put on the armor of God.

Immediately after doing my Bible study, I exercise in our bonus room.  I found that it was easier to do both of these things first, so I didn’t find an excuse to not do them.  When I start my day off by feeding my mind and soul and taking care of my body, I feel more energized and more focused on the tasks at hand.

We all are rushing through this life staying busy, but when was the last time you just sat and spent time listening to God – without any distractions? No cellphones, tv, etc. just sitting and talking with God. I challenge you today, to spend five minutes with God in the quiet without any distractions.  If you are super busy today, set a timer and just be still.  God’s available to you 24-7-365 and He deserves our time and attention.

Lord, today help me not to be so busy that I miss you and your glorious creations.  Help me to live out Psalm 46:10a and to be still, trusting You. Thank You, Lord. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

  1. Were you able to sit still for 5 minutes and be with God?
  2. What obstacles/distractions seem to get in the way of your time with God?
