“And God saw every thing that he had made, and, behold, it was very good. And the evening and the morning were the sixth day.” Genesis 1:31 KJV
I recently attended a spring musical about creation. The program talked about how God created all things and that we should love all His creations. This prompted me to start asking questions and considering my answers.
Do we always love what God created? Or do we just like pretty things like flowers and butterflies? Do we love snakes, flies, and buzzards? Or the weeds in the garden? Do we only love the people that are easy to love?
Elohim, the one who created me, made the heavens and earth, all the animals, and humans which were made in His image. He created for six days and “And God saw every thing that he had made, and, behold, it was very good. And the evening and the morning were the sixth day.” (Genesis 1:31 KJV). God didn’t say the pretty things were good or the sweet-smelling things were good. He said that ALL the things that he made were good, not just good but very good.
God created us all in His image, meaning that we are made after Him. He instructs us to love others as we love ourselves. John 15:12 tells us that we are to love as He loves us. Since God loves all people and creatures we should too, not just the nice person or the pretty person but the person that gets under our skin. The annoying sibling that really drives us up the wall, the not-so-kind schoolmate that sits near us at lunch. God calls us to action to love others, and ourselves. He made us, and He loves us.
King David writes in Psalm 139 about how marvelous and wonderfully complex we were created. We are no accident at all but a masterpiece that God specially designed. (Psalm 139:14-15). All of God’s creations are a masterpiece.
I don’t always see the annoying buzzing fly that is bothering me while I try to have a picnic lunch outside as a masterpiece, but God does because He created it. I do see the beautiful daffodils that are blooming under my maple tree and think they are marvelous. God didn’t say everything was “very pretty” once He was done creating, He said it was “very good”. Friend, let’s try to adjust our perspective on how we see God’s creations today. All of God’s creations are very good.
What is one way today that you can show one of God’s very good creations love?
Elohim, thank You for creating me in Your image and for the beauty that You created all around me. Forgive me for not always seeing the beauty in Your creations. Help change the lens that I see things through to be the way You see things. Thank you, Lord. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
How can I pray for you this week?
