Do you find yourself in another season of “not yet”? Where finding faith, love, and purpose in life feels paused? Reanna Hoffmann shares her story when she found herself in another season of “not yet” but found faith while waiting on God.
Another “Not Yet”
It was another holiday season of “not yet.”
I love being with my family. I really do. But the questions still catch me off guard every year. No, I haven’t reached the next step on the ladder of “success.” No, I didn’t lose weight. Yes, we still live in the same place. No, there’s no baby. Yes, my job is fine. No, I’m not content. And yes—some days I wonder if God forgot about me.
One afternoon, folding laundry and trying not to spiral, I opened my Bible and kept reading through the Psalms. I landed in Psalm 27, and it felt like God met me right there on the living room floor. “I remain confident of this: I will see the goodness of the Lord in the land of the living. Wait for the Lord; be strong and take heart and wait for the Lord.” Psalm 27:13–14 (NIV)
Waiting seasons do this thing where they suspend you—between what was and what you thought would be by now. You pray for clarity. For movement. For something to change. And sometimes, instead of answers, God invites you to trust Him again.
Feeling Paused?
So what does moving forward even look like when life feels paused? For me, it hasn’t looked like rushing or fixing or forcing a next step. It’s looked like choosing faith and love right where I already am.
Faith in the waiting hasn’t meant having it all figured out. It means coming back—again and again—to what I know is true about God, even when my feelings argue otherwise. Like David, I’m learning to believe I will see the goodness of the Lord, even if I don’t know when or how yet. Faith is being willing to stay, to pray, to hope—especially on the days I’d rather check out.
And then there’s love. Love feels like the most practical assignment I’ve been given. Scripture says, “Let us not love with words or speech but with actions and in truth” (1 John 3:18, NIV). Waiting hasn’t removed my purpose—it’s narrowed it. Purpose shows up in text messages, in meals, in listening without trying to fix. It looks like praying for the people God has placed in my life, even when I’m still waiting on answers of my own.
Renewed Purpose
Sometimes renewed purpose isn’t about doing something new. Sometimes it’s about showing up more honestly in what’s already in front of you.
Paul’s words feel especially tender here: “Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up” (Galatians 6:9, NIV). Waiting isn’t wasted. The small, unseen acts of faithfulness matter more than we think.
So maybe the question isn’t, “What’s next?” Maybe it’s, “How am I choosing faith today?” Or “How am I loving the people in front of me?”
And if you don’t know where to start, you don’t have to overthink it. Wait for the Lord. Be strong. Take heart. Show up again tomorrow. God is closer than the waiting makes Him feel. And one day, maybe sooner than we expect, we’ll look back and see that He was doing more in the “not yet” than we ever realized.
