Uphill Battles Are Worth the Fight

On a recent hike with my family, I started thinking about how this path I was walking, felt like my writing life.

We slowly started walking uphill. Some days we feel like we can conquer the world, while other times we struggle with daily tasks.

The hills seem to be steeper, while we look around and see others easily getting by without a single problem.

You keep walking along your path, yet you can’t seem to see what is around the bend. You aren’t sure you want to keep going.

But you keep putting one foot in front of the other.

Galatians 6:9 comes to mind,

“Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.” (Galatians 6:9 NIV).

The road ahead seems bumpy. The roots of trees have grown along the path making walking more treacherous. Paying careful attention to each step of the way so as not to stumble.

The road just keeps winding up and up. The incline that started out as moderate has become way more difficult. But I keep reciting Galatians 6:9.

At the end of the trail, you see the reward for not giving up.

I hit a roadblock this week. I had several no’s and rejections and it seemed to overwhelm me. But I kept thinking about this walk on the trail that my family made. It was worth it in the end. The hike up was hard, it was difficult to keep going. The easy way out would have been to just turn around and quit. We didn’t. We kept going and the beauty at the top of the trail was the most beautiful waterfall. I’m not giving up and throwing in the towel. Instead, I’m going to the source of my strength and sitting at His feet.

“He gives strength to the weary

and increases the power of the weak.

Even youths grow tired and weary,

and young men stumble and fall;

but those who hope in the Lord

will renew their strength.

They will soar on wings like eagles;

they will run and not grow weary,

they will walk and not be faint.”

Isaiah 40:29-31 NIV

Today I encourage you to not give up. Whatever you are facing today that seems to be an uphill battle, I encourage you to sit at His feet and just be.

Please share in the comments how I can pray for you today.
