Frustration and Disappointment on a Date

“So you must live as God’s obedient children.  Don’t slip back into your old ways of living to satisfy your own desires.  You didn’t know any better then.  But now you must be holy in everything that you do, just as God who chose you is holy.”

1 Peter 1:14-15 NLT

I feel like frustration and disappointment are trying to have a fight over me with which one I’ll be experiencing that day.

My husband and son have been spending every “free” moment for the last 6 months working on a race project. My son drag races in a local teen series. They’ve been upgrading the engine in his candy apple red Camaro. The engine swap was presented to me as a simple thing. I naively thought, that you replace the old one with the new one and everything would just work.  Little did I know what all is involved in this undertaking, new headers (I just learned what those were), new exhaust, and even a new gas pedal. Even the local auto parts store manager and I are on a first-name basis now.

I’m not going to bore you with all that goes into this engine swap because trust me, I couldn’t explain it to you. I’ve noticed how frustration and disappointment have crept in lately.  The engine is in, and everything is hooked up, but it’s not running properly (insert frustration).  This project has gone on so long, that we had plans to be at a practice race recently but the car wasn’t right so we couldn’t go (insert disappointment).

I can relate my walk of faith to this car, I can wear a cross necklace (shiny new parts), and share a verse online but unless I’m walking in obedience to God (running right) then I’m going to be frustrated and disappointed.  I’m not letting God’s best happen instead I’m doing what I think is best. I can’t just carry around my Bible, but I have to be reading it and applying it to my life to run at my top performance (like we hope this car does soon).

Heavenly Papa, forgive me for my disobedience.  Help me to walk in Your will and Your way. Thank You, Lord, In Jesus’ name. Amen.

The photo is of my son working tirelessly on his car. His first race of the season this year, he won! Once the car was tuned properly it ran wonderfully!

Is there an area in your life thatyou’ve been throwing new parts at but it’s not running properly?
